ADMISSION GUIDELINES
Admission Policy:
- The college being a Government Educational Institution, it follows the rules and regulations framed by the Government of Tamilnadu. For admission to Under Graduate Courses, According to the rules and regulations of the Department of Collegiate Education of Tamil Nadu Government, those students who have passed HSC (+2) Board examination are eligible to apply.
- The students are admitted various courses as per the community roster. The ranking is computed after calculating the +2 marks obtained by the student. The marks in the subject choice of the student to join the Undergraduate course play an important role in determining not only the rank but also her selection to that particular course.
- Prospectus is issued along with the application form for joining UG and PG courses. The prospectus contains the details of courses offered by the college and eligibility criteria. As per the rules of Government of Tamilnadu no Tuition fee for the students. Only a nominal fee is charged as subscription to Parents Teachers Association.
Rules of Reservation
The admission shall be made purely on the basis of Merit subject to the rules of reservation of the Govemment of Tamilnadu.
- 31% for open Competition (OC)
- 30% for Backward Classes (3.5% reservation for Muslims inclusive)
- 20% for Most Backward (MBC) and Denotified communities(DNC)
- 18% for Scheduled castes (SC), (3% reservation for SC Arunthathiyar inclusive)
- 1% reserved for Scheduled Tribes (ST)
Admission Process: Being a Government institution, the college strictly follows the admission procedures of the Government. So the deserving students are admitted according to the communal reservation of the Government. Naturally, above 90% of the students come from remote rural areas and from the weaker sections of the society. The list of the selected candidates based on merit will be displayed on the notice board of the college. The admission committee consisting of the senior professors will scrutinize and admit the students according to the guidelines of the University and the Government. An SC/ST will also be a member of the selection list.
- The Rank list is prepared for 400 marks obtained under Part III in Higher Secondary examination and admission to Government Colleges is through counseling.
- The students are then admitted to various courses according to sanctioned strength and reservation.
- For admission to Tamil Literature course, marks obtained in Part I Tamil alone is considered for ranking. Similarly for admission to English Literature course, marks obtained in Part II English alone is considered for ranking.
